How much is the grant?

The heat pump grant is made up of three parts:

  • €6,500 towards the heat pump system itself.
  • €2,000 towards upgrading your central heating / radiators so the heat pump runs efficiently.
  • €4,000 Renewable Heat Bonus for switching away from oil, gas, solid fuel or electric storage heating.

That totals up to €12,500 for a house and €9,500 for an apartment. An air-to-air heat pump is grant-aided up to €7,500. Full detail is on our Heat Pump Grant page.

Please note: these are indicative figures only. Grant amounts and eligibility are set by SEAI and local authorities, and can change at any time. We can't guarantee any amount. Always confirm current details directly with SEAI (seai.ie) or your local authority, and we'll go through what you may be eligible for at your free home visit.

Why switching from oil is rewarded

The €4,000 Renewable Heat Bonus exists to reward homeowners for leaving fossil fuels behind. If your home currently runs on oil, replacing it with an electric heat pump is exactly what the bonus is for, so an oil-heated home is well placed to claim the full grant.

Your home must have been built and occupied before 2021 and have a valid MPRN. The work must use an SEAI-registered contractor and be approved before it starts. We confirm exactly what you qualify for at a free home visit.

Not always, but a heat pump runs most efficiently in a reasonably airtight, well-insulated home. The grant process includes a technical heat-loss assessment. If some insulation would help, we tell you honestly, and those measures have their own grants.
