Individual Energy Upgrade Grants (Better Energy Homes)

These are the stackable grants every Irish homeowner can claim, one measure at a time. Pick the upgrades you want, claim a grant for each, and combine them over time. Here are the current amounts.

Banded amounts depend on your home type (detached, semi/end-terrace, mid-terrace or apartment):

External doors€800 per door, maximum 2 doors (€1,600).

Heating controls€700 (cannot be combined with the heat pump grant).
Solar PV (electricity)Up to €1,800.
Solar water heatingAround €1,200.

The rules that matter

  • Get approval before you start. Your grant must be approved by SEAI before any work begins.
  • Use an SEAI-registered contractor. Work by non-registered contractors isn’t grant-eligible.
  • Age of home. Insulation and heating-controls grants need a home built before 2011; heat pump and solar grants need a home built before 2021.
  • Grants stack. You can combine measures (heating controls can’t be combined with the heat pump grant).
  • New for 2026: a second wall-insulation measure is allowed if you previously claimed cavity or internal wall insulation.
  • Windows (from 2 March 2026) require your home to already have adequate attic and wall insulation first.

Yes. The grant must be approved by SEAI before any work starts, and a registered contractor must carry it out. Starting early can void the grant.

Insulation and heating-controls grants require a home built before 2011. Heat pump and solar grants require a home built before 2021.
